Shana Pawlowicz, our 2010 Miss Oshkosh, won Thursday night's Swimsuit Prelim and placed in the Top 10. Congrats Shana!

My name is Shana Pawlowicz. I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a double major in Journalism and Communication, double emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations. I currently am working for 44 Degrees North Advertising and Encore Event Planning. My dream is to open up my own event planning company someday and be able to use my creativity every day of my life.

I am honored to be holding the title of Miss Oshkosh 2010.  As a part of the Miss America program, I am given the opportunity to reach out to so many people promoting my platform, this organization, and my message of perserverance.

Three years ago I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. It was a very scary and unsettling time for me but it was also at that moment that I knew that I would be forever changed. I had always knew that I would make a great representative as Miss Oshkosh, but it wasn’t until that moment that I fully began to understand all of the great things with my platform I would be given the opportunity to achieve. I have been blessed to broaden my work with multiple cancer support organizations such as The American Cancer Society, St. Baldrick’s Day, After Breast Cancer Diagnosis and so many more. My work with these organizations is much more than a platform, it is a life long passion.

Thanks to the Miss Oshkosh Scholarship Program sponsored by the Women’s Division of Oshkosh Area, Inc. I was given the chance to take the first step toward becoming Miss America. In June I got to achieve my dream and compete for the title of Miss Wisconsin. I met so many amazing girls and the experience alone just goes to show how amazing the Miss America Organization truly is. I am very proud of my accomplishments during Miss Wisconsin and even happier by all of the wonderful friendships I have gained.

My favorite quote is, “You will never miss out on what god has intended for you”. I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. It is sometimes hard to see, and sometimes hard to keep that faith and strength, but life is made up of defining moments and it’s what you do when faced with those obstacles that speaks volumes of your character. I had competed for four years before becoming Miss Oshkosh, and now that I am here I fully intend to take in every moment and let this defining moment create many more for my future. I look forward to my year as Miss Oshkosh, and the chance to continue to make a difference in the community and to continually impact those I meet along my journey. I cannot thank everyone enough, who has helped to make this journey possible.
