The title of Miss Oshkosh is part of the Miss Oshkosh Scholarship Organization. Young women ages 18-25, working, living, or attending school in Winnebago County, Wisconsin compete annually for the title. Miss Oshkosh is an official local preliminary to Miss Wisconsin and Miss America.
The first Miss Oshkosh was crowned in 1964 and received a $100 scholarship. Over time, that amount grew and more scholarships and awards were presented to competitors. Today, every single Miss Oshkosh candidate receives a scholarship to further their education. Since 1970, 470 young women have received cash scholarships totaling $316,000.
